Privacy policy

In short: QuietNote has no account, no ads and no analytics, and the app has no permission to use the internet. Your notes stay on your phone (and in your phone's own backup, if you use it). QuietNote never keeps or sends any audio.
1. Who we are
QuietNote™ is made and published by Controlled Systems Group Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17118598), registered office 58 Broton Drive, Halstead, England, CO9 1HB. QuietGuard™ is a brand of the same company. We are the controller of personal data for QuietNote. You can reach us at support@quietguard.io.
2. What stays on your phone
QuietNote doesn't need an account, and we don't run a server for it. These things are kept only on your phone, inside QuietNote:
- your notes, with the date and time they were written or changed;
- the reminders you set, and the notes in Recently deleted (for 7 days, then they are deleted for good);
- your settings, such as light or dark, your language and Auto-delete.
We can't see any of this, and we don't receive it. If you delete everything in Settings, or uninstall QuietNote, it is deleted from your phone.
3. Your phone's own backup
So that your notes can come back on a new phone, QuietNote lets Android's own backup include your notes and QuietNote's settings, and nothing else. If backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android stores this copy in your Google account, encrypted by Google, and it is also used when you move to a new phone. This is a service of Google, under Google's terms; we can't see it. You can switch backup off in your phone's settings at any time.
4. Speaking a note
QuietNote uses the microphone only while you are speaking a note: from the moment you tap the microphone until you tap it again or stop speaking for a few seconds.
- Your speech is turned into text by your phone's speech recognition service (on most Android phones, Google's). QuietNote first asks for recognition on the phone.
- Where your phone has an offline language pack for that language, your speech stays on the phone. Otherwise the phone's speech service may send the audio to its provider (for example Google) to turn it into text, under that provider's privacy terms.
- QuietNote itself never receives, stores or sends audio. It only gets the text back, and voice commands such as "save" are understood by QuietNote on your phone.
If you'd rather not speak, you can always type: typing never uses the microphone. You can check your phone's speech settings, and download offline languages, in Android's settings (often under Languages or Voice input).
5. Reminders
Reminders use your phone's own alarms and notifications. Nothing about them leaves your phone. A reminder shows the note's text, so, depending on your phone's lock screen settings, it may be visible on the lock screen.
6. Updates
When QuietNote is installed from Google Play, it asks the Google Play Store app on your phone whether a newer version is available, so it can offer you the update. Google Play does this under Google's own terms. QuietNote sends no information of its own.
7. Permissions, and why
Android asks you before QuietNote can use the first two. You can change them at any time in your phone's settings.
- Microphone: asked the first time you tap the microphone, and used only while you speak a note.
- Notifications: asked the first time you set a reminder, so the reminder can appear.
- Alarms and reminders (exact alarms): so reminders come on the minute you chose. Without it they come within a few minutes.
- Starting after a restart: so your reminders are set again when your phone turns back on.
- No internet: QuietNote has no permission to use the internet. Links, such as this website, open in your browser.
8. This website
quietnote.io has no cookies, no ads and no analytics. If you choose dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser only. Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) handles your IP address to deliver the pages.
9. Children
QuietNote is suitable for everyone. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included. Speech recognition is provided by the phone's speech service, as explained above.
10. Your choices and rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you have rights over your personal data. Because your notes stay on your phone, you are in control: you can delete notes, empty Recently deleted, delete everything in Settings, switch off your phone's backup or uninstall QuietNote. For speech recognition and backup, see your provider's privacy settings. If you have a question or a complaint, email us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK (ico.org.uk) or to the data protection authority where you live.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll publish the new version on this page with a new date.
